Hermanus is internationally famous for it's mid year whale watching in the bay. Starting from around June onwards through to November each year, the Southern Right Whales come into Walker Bay to mate and rear their young offspring. Hermanus then becomes the best land based watching platform. Because of all this activity in winter in the southern hemisphere and because of the beautiful beaches during the summer months, Hermanus has become an all year round destination, with the necessary accommodation and restaurants to support the flow of people in and out of the town. it is also only 115km from cape Town, so its easy to get to on the scenic or the direct route.
Here are a few more pictures of the Hermanus beachfront. This picture looks along the cliffs back onto the old harbour and the town centre.
