Day6 - Leg5 - Bots+Zim- Ride to bridge

After lunch where we had eaten Impala off the spit, it was time for a few people to take a ride out to the low level bridge some 15km from the venue for a little ride. Not everyone went, but for those that did they really enjoyed the ride. before heading out however, we were looking at some of the old bikes that had made their way to the rally.

(Apologies for the mix up in order of publishing - too much Xmas and new year relaxing!)

Day6 - Leg4 - Bots+Zim - KTM & BMW pics

A chap called Howard from SA Bike Magazine was at the rally and he was collecting pictures for an article in the magazine, so he wanted all the KTM riders to line up, and then all the BMW riders in a separate picture.

As most of the chaps in our group made up the KTM riders I went along and took pictures of them too and ended up missing the call for being in the BMW picture. Only later did someone mention I should get up there with my bike but they had finished by the time I got there. Two other BMW riders had also not been informed and so they took a separate picture of us at the entrance to the rally under the big banner.

Day6 - Leg3 - Bots+Zim - Meet Giraffe again

The giraffe was such a friendly chap, that I wanted Klaus to see it. We had been chatting near the pub. We went down to find it and one of the farm workers who knew where it was offered to go and call it for us. he wondered off and came back later with Toddy the giraffe. Once it was there other gathered around and patted it's head.

Day6 - Leg2 - Bots+Zim - Fix burned tyre

After a big party the whole day before, it was difficult getting going again today. Everyone was doing their own thing so I walked around looking at each set of people to see what they were up to.

Some were gargling the national anthem using Jagermeister, some were fixing the bikes burned out tyre from the evening before, some were watching international rugby on TV, some were just sitting in the sun.Others were cleaning their bikes for a clean bike competition.

Meanwhile - others we in good spirits, gargling the national anthem using Jagermeister!

Feeling on top of the world today!
Motel Pub - note the TV above the door! 22 people watched an international game but too small
Outside, with fishing rods in the roof

People were all over the place, some camping, some in rooms

Some interesting old bikes around too

Day6 - Leg1 - Bots+Zim - Meet Mr Giraffe

When I wanted to sleep the night before I found my bed had been annexed, so ended up in someone else's cottage. In the morning woke up in this unfamiliar cottage down the road from the main set of buildings which felt about only 2 hours after going to bed! I thought I would get out and look around while every one else was still asleep.

To my surprise there was a tame giraffe right outside the cottage and it was so friendly and keen to be patted and stroked. I spent about half an hour stroking it's forehead like you would a horse, and it loved it and kept coming back for more. Such a wonderful animal! It was a real honour to be able to meet such a large "wild" animal up close and personal.

Good Morning Mr Giraffe

The cottage I ended up in - away from all the noise and all night music

Such a majestic beast - made me feel really close to the wild

Friendly friendly

Closest I got to getting the whole giraffe in one picture up close!

That long neck can move very fast

Step back and get it all in
Not easy to get it all into the lens up close
Such a friendly giraffe

Day5 - Leg13 - Bots+Zim - Party

After the burn out we got down to the serious business of having a few more beers around the fire. It's a time honoured African tradition and has to be done! A great night was had by all.

Someone came up with the idea of a "seireeous" off-road ride and started marketing the idea around the fire for 10am tomorrow, but while the mind was willing, it turned out that the body was weak the next day and it never really happened.

It seemed like a good idea at the time a "SEROUSE Off-road ride at 10am"
