First day's 3rd leg of the ride Betty's Bay Mountains & Kleinmond Fire

This continues the series of my Motorcycle Adventure travels from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth which is the first goal, over a two day period. Details of the whole trip can be found here.

Coming inland from Rooi-Els towards Betty's Bay, we find some amazing mountains covered with a rich layer of fynbos because on the inland part of this trip is the Kogelberg Nature reserve.

This picture was taken just coming into the small village of Betty's Bay. Unspoilt mountains and fynbos.

Yours truely - smiling and happy to be out here doing this ride on such a beautiful day.

Then further along the road once I'd gone through the town of Kleinmond, just leaving the other side (starting where is says 'main road' on the map above and continuing for some 5km), I saw the results of a huge fire tat had swept through the area about a month or so before hand.

It was as through I'd driven into a sepia coloured world. While the devistation was apparent on both sides of the roadand for some distance, it also had a strange kind of beauty which I thought I'd photograph.

Adventure motorcycling is certainly the best form of adventure travel, you smell the smells, in this case the burnt bush, feel the temperature of the air, and seem much closer to it all than being in a car or train.

The motorcycle safari route being described here is part on the Cape Mountain and Garden Tour Route, so if you are keen to explore it for yourself please feel free to reserve a place on one of the tours.
