Day2 - Leg9 - Bots+Zim - Vaalie shows up

This is the daily blog from Africa4Adventure.com, in particular a short series on the Botswana and Zimbabwe - Giraffe tour we attended during July 2011. Check out the plans and route for the trip here.
More South and Southern African motor cycle tours on our list of tour route summaries are available, where we explore these sorts of motorcycle tour routes. Just choose one of our events and reserve yourself a place on one of the future motorcycle adventure safari events.

We'd had our beer and were just getting ready to head off for the final leg for the day, when next minute a very dusty looking chap rolls into the pub-stop being attracted by all the bikes to meet some kindred spirits! Vaalie, his name is, had just spent the last 14000km traveling from Cape Town through Southern Africa to Tanzania to go and climb the Mount Kilimanjaro mountain on his own. When we met him he was making his way down to Upington aiming for some motobike rally there. He reckoned his claim to fame would arrive at the rally and win the prize for the longest journey to get to the rally! Hands down he was going to win it.

Of course this new found mate called for some celebration, so some of us stayed for another beer while the rest carried on towards Kasane and Chobe safari lodge. We told him about our trip and listened to his story. We ended up inviting him to join us to the Zimbabwe Giraffe rally we were heading too because that way he would still win the longest journey to the rally and he'd have some company on the way. He agreed over a beer and the deal was done! What a pleasure to have Vaalie with us for more laughs and yet another KTM 990!

Check the worn out tyre with a small patch of thread showing
Well it was obvious he had done too much travelling on his own and needed some company
Talking about his African journey so far
Well riden bike
