Karoo - Day5 Leg6 - Valley of Desolation

The Valley of Desolation was a splendid surprise of nature. It mixes flora, fauna, mountains, views, rock structures and for the bikers twisty roads (although with a 40km/h speed limit in the park). One rides out of Graaff-reinet for about 8km or so, with the dam on your right and then you turn left into the Camdeboo National Park. once in the park you double back towards Graaff-reinet but up through the Mountains climbing all the time until you reach the top and peer back over down onto Graaff-reinet.

You can also carry on further on some twisty roads which take you to the final view site of this weird but gigantic rock structure that has worn away over the millenia. More on that next time.

This is the daily blog from Africa4Adventure.com. A short series on the Karoo Motorbike tour we took on during September 2011. See the plans for the trip blog here: Planning a 6 day 2500km route through the Karoo maximising dirt
More South and Southern African motor cycle tours on our list of tour route summaries are available, where we explore these sorts of motorcycle tour routes. Just choose one of our events and reserve yourself a place on one of the future motorcycle adventure safari events.
