Karoo - Day5 Leg4 - Leaving Bethesda

Leaving Nieu Bethesda, we climbed out over some lovely hills with views back down over the fertile valleys and views into the distance. We stopped for a few pictures and then kept heading towards Graaff-Reinet which in Karoo terms is the size of a city. In reality all towns in the Karoo are villages and this Graaff-Reinet is a small Town.

We also found a very long straight downhill where you could see for many km into the distance, see the pictures below.  We were now off to a place called Desolation valley which sounds worse than it is!

This is the daily blog from A short series on the Karoo Motorbike tour we took on during September 2011. See the plans for the trip blog here: Planning a 6 day 2500km route through the Karoo maximising dirt
More South and Southern African motor cycle tours on our list of tour route summaries are available, where we explore these sorts of motorcycle tour routes. Just choose one of our events and reserve yourself a place on one of the future motorcycle adventure safari events.
Fertile valleys that only get water from the river, then rest stays parched

Looking back up the way we had ridden

Rich passed me and then turned round to come back
Lovely view of the little "koppie" over the river

We were not sure what they grow here

Long down hill going out of Nieu Bethesda down to the plains
