Karoo - Day4 Leg6 - Little green oasis

Taking back roads always bring pleasant surprises. This one was no exception. We had ridden for about 30 or 40km through dusty Karoo out of Middelburg, when we came around one corner and into a farm which had a dam, green trees and green grass and the whole place was very lush. They obviously manage their water very well as the difference was very noticeable.  We weren't sure if it was a guest farm or not, but whatever it was it was a very pleasant spot to live, if you like the quiet life, that is. We concluded that it must have a spring or an extremely large water table under it.

We then pressed on and there many more pleasant surprises awaiting us over the next few hills...

This is the daily blog from Africa4Adventure.com. A short series on the Karoo Motorbike tour we took on during September 2011. See the plans for the trip blog here: Planning a 6 day 2500km route through the Karoo maximising dirt
More South and Southern African motor cycle tours on our list of tour route summaries are available, where we explore these sorts of motorcycle tour routes. Just choose one of our events and reserve yourself a place on one of the future motorcycle adventure safari events.

Our back road route on the Satnav

Back in the wide open spaces
Old barn or house?

Off into wild game territory

Suddenly we found this little green oasis in the middle of dusty dry farmland

Not sure it it was a guest farm or a regular farm, but a very nice location

Large dam with some red growth on it
A pretty fancy farmhouse too, compared to most we'd seen

Time of a quick breather
Green trees and grass all around relative to the surroundings

Back on the road again - with the shadows lengthening

Out into Game country
