Previously, I had to make a detour from where I was in Prince Albert around the Swartberg mountains of about roughly 120km via Meringspoort pass, instead of coming over the mountain (shown in the first picture below). This is one of my favourite Passes and is included on one of the tours, because you wind up some serious hills and twisty bits to get a view for hundreds of miles.
So once I'd got to this road, which is the exit to the Swartberg Pass on the Oudtshoorn side, I thought I'd check my suspicions that the pass was in fact not closed from this end. I rode up the road for about 4 km's and i discovered I was right. How frustrating is that?!
