Karoo - Day6 Leg5 - Steep climb

Do you know, that looking at the photos now, compared to the feel you get when you are actually riding or standing there is just so different. Riding Swartberg pass is probably one of my most favourite passes in the world (certainly South Africa) and I have ridden many. Why you ask? Well it's the sheer distance you ride which makes it awesome - you don't get to feel that distance and spread in these pictures. Also the change of scenery from the low close steep mountain sides to the open high up twisty roads, the views, the multiple tops you reach, then the de/ascent down over a green valley on the other side from which you can even see forever. There is even a VERY rustic coffee shop near the top somewhere! more on that later.

This is the daily blog from Africa4Adventure.com. A short series on the Karoo Motorbike tour we took on during September 2011. See the plans for the trip blog here: Planning a 6 day 2500km route through the Karoo maximising dirt
More South and Southern African motor cycle tours and motorbike hire on our list of tour route summaries are available, where we explore these sorts of motorcycle tour routes. Just choose one of our events and reserve yourself a place on one of the future motorcycle adventure safari events.

The road looks like a castle on the hill
