Karoo - Day2 Leg1 - Breakfast and Observatory

We got up, had breakfast, coffee as it was rather cold (about -2deg C overnight but soon went up to 20deg C in the morning), and then headed off to the  The South African Astronomical Observatory to check it out. They have it there because it is so far in the middle of nowhere and far from cities and at a high altitude, that the night (and day) skies are extremely clear and good visibility is attainable for what they do. We planned, after great advice from the locals, a trip along the Old Post road an alternative to get to the next town.

This is the daily blog from Africa4Adventure.com. A short series on the Karoo Motorbike tour we took on during September 2011. See the plans for the trip blog here: Planning a 6 day 2500km route through the Karoo maximising dirt
More South and Southern African motor cycle tours on our list of tour route summaries are available, where we explore these sorts of motorcycle tour routes. Just choose one of our events and reserve yourself a place on one of the future motorcycle adventure safari events.
The Old Post Road Route to Frasierburg

Admiring the new Boma the owner was building

massive place

The gate was not working when we got there
So we did what all good bikers do - find an alternative route!

We went inside the museum part and looked around for some time - it was most interesting
